Re: OK-Cleveland County-Oklahoma City Suburbs ????
I've been listening to this scanner in Cleveland County, OK (http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=2141. This incident is surreal. They have fire everywhere, FF's are scattered all over doing burnouts trying to protect homes and not knowing where each other is located. They need to be very careful as the holes in the swiss cheese are starting to line up.

Re: OK-Cleveland County-Oklahoma City Suburbs ????
At some point, when one is up to his a$# in alligators, it may be difficult to remember the original task was to drain the swamp (that was before the epa).

While the methods may be different from other parts of the country, I notice (been listening for 2 days) the attention to FF safety and health by Fire Command. Online units being rotated for rehab during their shifts. With temps of 110+ and 19% humidity, you would think they were fighting fire in SoCal.
My hat is off to them for doing a great job with limited resources.
They do have a problem that is even with West Coast, and that would be uncommon radios (VHF,UHF).

Re: OK-Cleveland County-Oklahoma City Suburbs ????
I was really surprised to see how few people are fighting those fires! It is a different way of doing things but I was looking at all of the old fires (yellow spots on MODIS) and there are alot of them so these folks must have their training hours in and to be volunteers, I'd say they are doing pretty darn good. Our counties all come together to fight fires too. I think it's just that we have so much land that is government owned and they call in the big guns to protect it and are there if the private sector needs help. The Air Force is on the Blue Gill fire that I was listing to yesterday with aircraft and some helping with evacs. With so much of Eastern Oklahoma being Indian Nation, BIA, it's different here too on the Rez.
