Re: MT-NCA-Ash Creek
The Ash Creek fire made significant movement to the east with running crown fire and long-range spotting yesterday afternoon. The fire is threatening residences in the Wilbur, Whitetail, Beaver Creek and East Fork of Otter Creek areas, all of which have been ordered by the Powder River County Sheriff to evacuate.
Today's forecasted weather could provide some slight relief to fire personnel with temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s, continued low relative humidity levels and predicted winds to decrease to 5-15 mph.
Current Situation
Total Personnel 436
Size 156,988 acres
Percent Contained 25%

There was fire activity in cottonwood pockets along the Tongue River but for the most part the fire did quiet down over night in that "lull" as predicted by our Fire Behavior Analyst. The fire is still threatening residences in the Wilbur, Whitetail, Beaver Creek and East Fork of Otter Creek areas, all of which remain evacuated. Fire remains south of Beaver Creek, west of the Beaver Creek Road and north of Highway 212. A public meeting in Broadus to explain the potential for this fire, and local services restoration was held last night, and will continue to be held at 07:00 pm each night for the immediate future. Power was restored to Broadus last night.
This entire area is covered by a Red Flag Warning that stretches from the Continental Divide to the Dakotas, and north central Wyoming, from noon today to 6:00 am tomorrow morning. Low humidity, temperatures in the 101-106 range and strong gusty winds are forecast. There are also the increasing chances for renewed thunderstorm activity later in the day. All of these factors join to prepare for a very active fire behavior today. Firefighter and public safety are the number one priority and these weather conditions need to be heeded for what the potential is to that safety today.
Fire activity remains moderate on the Coal Seam fire and is in mop up and patrol status. Fire crews will continue suppression tactics when appropriate, mop-up and patrol. This fire is 80 percent contained.
Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place at the local and tribal levels. Please respect those restrictions by ceasing fireworks and open fire use of any kind.
A fire information phone number is set-up for the Ash Creek Complex: 406-748-3061 Ranches and residences remain threatened particularly in the Ashland/Broadus Divide near the leading edge of this fire. Highway 212 between Ashland and Broadus remains closed due to fire activity and smoke. Please do not go around the barricades to travel that route. Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place at the local and tribal levels. Please respect those restrictions by ceasing fireworks and open fire use of any kind.

Volunteers from the Red Cross are on their way to Montana to help assist with the fire. The group met up in Spokane Tuesday afternoon to prepare their assistant by bringing in food and water for the rural communities and firefighters.
