From the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center (AICC) Morning Higlights:

"Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service personnel are working to contain a fire that escaped from a landfill south of Allakaket Village around 4 p.m. on June 20, 2012.The fire is roughly three and a half miles long and a half mile wide and covers 2,500 acres. The fire is burning in Black Spruce, White Spruce and hardwoods with 20 to 30 foot flame lengths. A two and a quarter mile area has been secured closest to the town. The main priority is fire fighter safety and protection of the village. Fire retardant air tankers and water delivery aircraft were sent to the area as part of the initial suppression effort. Smokejumpers and fire crews were deployed to the fire last night and additional resources will be sent this morning. The fire was not caused by lightning, but no additional information is available at this time."
