This is a map and info site for the debris being carried to us from Japan by the ocean currents. Our news channels have carried interviews with officials handling the cleanup. Civilians have been told not to touch any of it and the debris is being scanned for radio activity and other hazards. While this is not a fire info site, I thought you might find it helpful.
-------------
In reading the website, it gives more information about handling the debris than what we have been told in the media.

Re: PNW UPDATE 2012 Fire Season
6/23
Preparedness Levels:
Today - 1
30 days - 2
Northwest Fire Activity:
New fires and acres: 12 fires for 445 acres
OR: 11 fires for 335 acres
WA: 1 fires for 110 acres
Northwest Weather Highlights / Fire Potential:
Low pressure offshore is causing a major weather cooling trend accompanied by increasing winds, showers and wet thunderstorms on the eastside. The cloudy cool showery weather is expected to continue through the weekend.
No critical large fire potential anticipated for the near future as fuels will be slow to dry under this type of weather pattern.

Re: PNW UPDATE 2012 Fire Season
Central Washington has a new website:
http://www.nwccweb.us/Districts/CWICC/index.html (new DISTRICT site)
http://www.nwccweb.us/index.aspx (NWCC Home)
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick...&FcstType=text
Northwest Weather Highlights / Fire Potential:
A deep upper low rotating just offshore will continue to pump moisture and instability into the region. Expect some
showers and a few wet thundershowers on Sunday and Monday then diminishing during the new week. Temperatures
will remain unusually cool until the middle of the week.
Some fire starts are likely from lightning strikes but fire danger indices remain low enough to keep the risk of large,
costly fires low through this forecast period. No critical fire weather patterns are foreseen anytime soon.Last edited by Sammie; 06-24-2012 at 09:00. Reason: Need more coffee!

Re: PNW UPDATE 2012 Fire Season
6/27
No fires yet.
Northwest Weather Highlights / Fire Potential:
A dry and slightly warmer southwesterly flow will be over the area over the next couple of days. A weak weather disturbance may cause a few showers over Eastern Washington on Thursday. A stronger trough will move in over the weekend for more showers and thundershowers.
Large fire potential expected to remain low through the weekend, however, slight uptick in IA activity possible on the weekend due to lightning even though storms will be wet.
